A walk from the cable-car base station in Blatten through the Rischinerwald forest to Stalden and back. It’s well worth making the detour to the Gibidum dam for the views alone.

Starting in Blatten at the base station for the Belalp cable car the route initially follows the road for a short distance towards the Restaurant Belstar. This is the last chance to enjoy a snack before setting off on the walk through the Rischinerwald to Stalden. The trail leads through gently undulating terrain. At the Stalden car park, you can also turn off in the direction of Tschuggen or continue through the Rischinerwald towards Belalp. Alternatively you can continue walking up to the Gibidum reservoir, enjoying glorious views of the natural landscape. This reservoir is fed by various mountain streams as well as the main Massa river and the Great Aletsch Glacier itself. Our trail continues through the Rischinerwald back to the cable-car station in Blatten. The route makes an ideal and fun snowshoe walk for the whole family: a fairly short but very beautiful and easy winter walk. Afterwards, you can return to Naters or Brig at leisure by PostBus.

Safety information

Safety advice for winter

Even on marked snowshoe trails there is a residual risk, so you should never count on a route being totally safe. Never leave the marked trails.

We recommend you carry the same safety equipment as for a ski tour.

Always check the latest avalanche bulletin ( www.slf.ch/en ).

In cases of uncertainty, please consult the local cable-car company, Belalp Bahnen AG:   / +41 27 921 60 40.
