During the brief ice age, the recent glacier created a 100-metre-long moraine near the Fafleralp. The valley behind is now bordered by the exposed glacial furrows of the lateral moraines. In addition to the numerous boulders strewn around, visitors see several tarns formed by glacial melt, such as the picturesque and cold Grundsee. The new themed nature trail in the forefield of the Lang Glacier is another fascinating destination. Only in a few places in the Alps is a glacier forefield as easily accessible as it is in the Lötschental. Along a total of 23 stations, the nature trail tells in pictures the history of the formation of this impressive mountain landscape in the forefield of the Langgletscher.
